Meditation Workshop: Finding Your Technique
FIND THE MEDITATION TECHNIQUE THAT WORKS FOR YOU Have you tried to meditate but just couldn’t stick with it? Have you given up, frustrated with the lack of results? Or maybe you’ve been curious about meditation but unsure of how to begin? Join Jan to explore several meditation techniques, including zen, mantra, visualization, metta and guided meditation, in order to find one that you can feel comfortable with and enjoy. You will practice a short yoga asana practice and be briefly introduced to yoga nidra. Through meditation, we can find that place of deep concentration; transforming our mood from anxious to calm; and tune in to the quiet, peaceful awareness that always abides deep within. Studies suggest that meditation increases activity in areas of the brain associated with positive feelings, that it supports the immune system, and that it lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. It is a natural stress reliever. So if meditation is so wonderful, why aren’t we all doing it? Meditation—the act of residing in a deep state of concentration, uninterrupted by thoughts—is challenging. For most people, it takes a long period of daily practice to find that state of concentration and enjoy it for more than a few seconds at a time. So, to experience the benefits of meditation, you need to be dedicated and consistent. To start, you need a technique that resonates with you, so that you’re motivated to return to it. This workshop is appropriate for all students, and no previous meditation or yoga experience is necessary. This workshop will incorporate a brief, gentle yoga asana practice, so please come dressed in comfortable clothing. Registration is recommended and space is limited.
